1. Who we are and what this policy covers
This volunteer portal and its text messaging program are operated by Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), operating as BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Detroit (“we”, “us”, “our”), 3175 S. Canton Center Road, Canton, MI 48188.
This policy explains what information we collect through the volunteer portal and our volunteer text messages, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies only to this portal. The main mandir website, www.baps.org/detroit, has its own policies.
2. Information we collect
Information you give us when you register or update your profile:
- your first and last name;
- your email address, which you use to log in;
- your mobile phone number; and
- in the future, the volunteer availability and seva preferences you choose to share.
Text message consent records. When you opt in to or out of volunteer text messages, we keep a record of the date and time, the exact consent wording you were shown, the version of our terms, how you opted in or out (web form, dashboard, or text reply), and technical details such as your IP address, browser type, and the page you used. If you text us a keyword such as STOP, START or HELP, we keep a record of that message.
Login information. When you log in, our authentication provider records basic technical details, such as the time of login, needed to keep your account secure.
3. How we use your information
We use your information only to run the volunteer program, specifically to:
- register you as a volunteer and let you log in to the portal;
- organize volunteer (seva) scheduling and contact you about your seva;
- send volunteer coordination text messages, only if you have opted in;
- keep records that show we have your consent to send text messages; and
- keep the portal secure and working properly.
We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not use the portal to request donations.
4. Text messaging and mobile information
We do not sell or share your SMS opt-in data or personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties, except the service providers described below that deliver our messages.

7. How long we keep information
We keep your registration information while you are a volunteer and until you ask us to delete it. We keep text message consent records for as long as needed to show that we had your permission to text you, as messaging regulations require, even after you opt out or your registration is deleted.
8. How we protect information
Information is sent over encrypted (HTTPS) connections and stored with our service providers in the United States. Access is limited: volunteers can see only their own information, and only authorized volunteer coordinators can see the volunteer list. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
9. Your choices
- Stop text messages: reply STOP to any message, or turn off texts in your volunteer dashboard.
- See or correct your information: log in to your dashboard, or contact us.
- Delete your information: contact us at (734) 450-5570 or it.dtw.admin@usa.baps.org and we will delete your registration, except for the consent records described above.
10. Children
The portal is intended for volunteers aged 13 and older. Volunteers under 18 should register with a parent or guardian's permission. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13; if you believe a child under 13 has registered, please contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new version on this page and change the “Last updated” date above.
